Flopilot vs Trello: which one for your projects?
Trello popularised the simple, visual kanban board. Flopilot starts from the whole project. Here are the differences of principle, so you can choose with confidence.
Trello
Trello made its name with kanban boards: lists in columns and cards you drag from one to another. It is simple, visual and quick to pick up, and extensions (Power-Ups) let you add features.
Flopilot
Flopilot starts from the project rather than the board: each project brings together its tasks (as a list, a kanban board or a calendar), its notes, its documents readable in the app, its useful links, its "To read" and its dashboard.
What both of them do
- A kanban board with drag and drop
- Due dates, labels and comments
- Checklists inside tasks
- Teamwork, with invited people
- A tool that opens in the browser
The differences of principle
Not a feature race: what each tool puts at the centre, and how it approaches the same needs.
| Criterion | Trello | Flopilot |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | A board of cards | A complete project: tasks, notes, documents, links, dashboard |
| Task views | The kanban board as the main view | List, kanban and calendar (month, week, day), in every project |
| Documents | Attached to cards | Organised in folders per project and readable in the app (PDF, Word, spreadsheets, presentations…) |
| Getting a document read | Usually through a comment or a mention | "To read": a request, a deadline, and the list of who has read it |
| Adding features | With extensions (Power-Ups) | Built-in features, and connections to the apps of the Flopix family |
| Data hosting | Check Trello's documentation on where data is stored | In France, on an OVH server |
Comparison written in October 2026 based on each tool's principles, not on an exhaustive list of features: those change quickly. Always check each vendor's website before choosing.
Which one is right for you?
Choose Trello if…
- You only want a kanban board, and a very light one.
- Your team already uses Trello and its extensions every day.
- Your documents live in another tool, and that works for you.
Choose Flopilot if…
- You want the project's documents next to the tasks, readable without downloading.
- You need the list and the calendar as much as the kanban board.
- You want to know who has read the important documents.
- Hosting in France matters to you.
Moving from Trello to Flopilot
- Create a Flopilot project for each active board (no need to migrate old boards).
- Copy your lists as Markdown text ("## List name", then "- [ ]" for each card), or use a CSV file if you have one, and import them: each list becomes a group of tasks.
- Drag the important attachments into the project's Documents tab.
- Invite your team, and your clients as guests.
Frequently asked questions
Does Flopilot have a kanban board like Trello?
Yes. Every project has a kanban board with drag and drop, and the same tasks also appear as a list and on the calendar.
Can I import my Trello boards into Flopilot?
There is no direct import from Trello. Flopilot imports tasks from Markdown text or a CSV file: if you can get your cards in one of these formats, or copy them as a list, they arrive in a few clicks, sorted into groups.
Is Flopilot more complicated than Trello?
It does more (notes, documents, To read, dashboards), so there is a little more to discover. But the structure is the same for every project and creating a task takes a single sentence, so getting started stays quick.
