Flopilot vs Asana: which tool for a small team?
Asana is designed for structured teams running many projects in parallel. Flopilot aims for simplicity, with documents at the heart of every project.
Asana
Asana is a work management tool designed for teams: projects, tasks, several views (including a timeline), goals and automation rules. It is a good fit for teams that follow formal processes.
Flopilot
Flopilot is aimed at freelancers and small teams who want everything in one place with no configuration: tasks and their views, but also notes, documents readable in the app, "To read" and dashboards built from widgets.
What both of them do
- Projects and tasks with assignment, due dates and subtasks
- List, kanban board and calendar views
- Comments on tasks
- Dashboards
- Teamwork
The differences of principle
Not a feature race: what each tool puts at the centre, and how it approaches the same needs.
| Criterion | Asana | Flopilot |
|---|---|---|
| Target audience | Structured teams with set processes | Freelancers, small teams and nonprofits |
| Getting started | Feature-rich, with some setup time | Deliberately simple, the same structure for every project |
| Documents | Attachments on tasks and projects | A document library per project, readable in the app, folders dragged in with their subfolders |
| Getting a document read | Usually through comments and mentions | "To read": a request, a deadline, and the list of who has read it |
| Notes and drawing | Focused on tasks and projects | Rich notes, memos, checklists and freehand drawing in every project |
| Data hosting | Check Asana's documentation on where data is stored | In France, on an OVH server |

Frequently asked questions
Is Flopilot suitable for a large team?
Flopilot is designed first and foremost for freelancers and small teams. The Business plan accommodates larger organisations, but if your team needs highly formal processes and advanced automations, a tool like Asana will probably be a better fit.
Can I import my Asana tasks into Flopilot?
There is no direct import from Asana. If you have a CSV export of your tasks, Flopilot imports it and recognises the title, group, priority, due date, person, tags, description and status columns.
Does Flopilot have a timeline view (Gantt chart)?
No. Flopilot offers the list, the kanban board and the calendar (month, week, day). If a Gantt chart is essential for your team, take that into account when you choose.
